It’s January
and for film buffs, that only means one thing- it’s awards season! The best of
the best in cinema come out usually in December, in perfect timing when
critics, film groups, the academy of filmmakers, and other award-winning bodies
are getting ready to award which movies they think are deserving of recognition.
So, get your affordable Android tablet PC ready, because if you have missed
watching the movies on cinemas, you will most likely have better chances of
catching them online rather than on television.
Here are three films we think would perform well this awards season:
American Hustle
Those who
haven’t had enough of scandal-themed movies and TV shows will surely find
American Hustle interesting. This film tells the story of con man Irving
Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and his British partner, former stripper Sydney
Prosser (Amy Adams). When forced into working with Richie DiMaso (Bradley
Cooper), a high-strung FBI agent, the pair gets entangled in the New Jersey
mafia’s web. Irving’s wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) and politician Carmine
Polito (Jeremy Renner) add to the mix of characters in volatile
situations. The film has garnered high
reviews (7.9/10 in IMDB and 92% in Rotten Tomatoes) and critics have marked it
to be a major contender in the Academy Awards.
12 Years a Slave
Directed by
Steve McQueen, 12 years a slave is one of those epic dramas that takes viewers
on a provoking historical ride. The film is an adaptation of Solomon Northup’s
autobiography. A free man born in New York, Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) was
kidnapped and sold into slavery, forced to deny his education, and endured
abuse while toiling at a cotton plantation. Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael
Fassbender, and Pitt are also part of the cast. This unflinching portrayal of
slavery has earned high ratings in reviews and is seen as a major contender in
the Academy Awards in March. If torture
and painful scenes are too much for you to see on the big screen, try watching
the film on your affordable Android tablet instead.
Dallas Buyer's Club
Another film
in the lineup of notable entries that could strike gold in the Academy Awards
is the biographical drama Dallas Buyer’s Club. Based on the life of AIDS
patient Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey), the film tells the story of how
Woodroof used, imported and resold the DDC and Peptide T after his health
worsened from the AIDS drug AZT prescribed to him by Dr. Eve Saks (Jennifer
Garner). He sets up the “buyer’s club” with Rayon (Jared Leto), a transsexual.
The film has been included in the nominees for the Writers Guild Awards, thus
boosting its chances for the Oscars.
Great post and very interesting! About to check them out!
ReplyDeleteThanks Minori! :)
DeleteI enjoyed the post. I have seen the first two movies. Both include wonderful performances. I have not seen Dallas Buyers Club. It was a toss up between that and Wolf of Wall Street last weekend so I chose the former. I still have Dallas Buyers Club on my must-see list; particularly, because of the superb reviews the performances of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto are receiving. Can you tell yet that I love (great) films?

You really love movies Sharon. Dallas Buyers is a must-see movie trust me. The actors were so good especially Jared Leto (i'm being bias because he's my Hollywood crush. xoxo). Thanks for a wonderful comment. :)
DeleteI'm not really very up to date with latest movies/music/world in general, haha so I've not really heard much about these movies. They seem great though!

I love these three movies a lot! Dallas Buyers Club is my favorite with 12 years a slave. I hope they do well, but I'll keep the rest of my wishes for my home country movies :) Gotta support my French Canadian roots!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed 12 Years A Slave. Lupita Nyongo has become one of my favorite actresses.
